Scuba Gear Runs Small?

I was recently trying on scuba gear. I wear a dress size and pant size 3-4. When I got to the place, the only thing I could fit into was a size 8 to 10. Does the gear run excessively small or is it the type? (They were wet suits I tried on) Thank you
It is in WOMENS size, not children. The associate check it out and so did I. The tag read WMN 10.
If it were for a 10 year old, I wouldn’t be apply to even put it on…..have you seen 10 yr olds clothing?
